Tim Vasko, CEO, Convergent Media Network
During a 20-year career in the United States,
Tim Vasko successfully led companies in sectors as diverse as investment
banking, real estate, oil and gas, direct marketing, printing, manufacturing,
and hospitality.
In 1997, Vasko sailed his boat into Victoria’s Inner Harbor,
and knew immediately he would make Victoria his home. He became a
founding faculty member of the Entrepreneurship program at the University
of Victoria. He went on to lecture in the Application & Management
of Information Technology program at UVic and in the MBA program at
Royal Roads.
While doing PhD research on technology, global markets and entrepreneurship,
Vasko envisioned a company that would provide the integrated solutions
businesses would need in a technology-based “connected” world.
In 1997 CMN was born. Vasko left his fulltime teaching and research
positions to operate CMN in 1999.
Vasko’s mandate for CMN is to “See the future” – to
imagine the next great technological system and business paradigm.
An internet pioneer, CMN built the first online presence for LG Wireless,
and delivered business strategies to Overstock.com, and Skymall (this
led to a Rupert Murdoch-led friendly buy out). CMN’s e-health
division has created paperless pharmacy solutions that are industry
leaders. Its CRM3 platform was a runner-up at the 2004 Viatec awards.
Vasko lives in Victoria with his wife and four children.
