Open Source Project
  • Adam Rogers
  • Peter Zhang

The Main purpose of this project is to make a significant contribution to an existing open source project.

Our choice of open source program for this project is the mail server known as Squirrel Mail. This is a PHP4-based Web email client, which renders all pages in pure HTML for maximum compatibility across browsers. It has a flexible plug-in system that allows for quick and easy customization.

The open source project team consists of two developers, Adam Rogers and Peter Zhang. The tools that they will be using to complete this task will be Textpad, a few reference books on PHP, and our collective knowledge and understanding of programming.

The scope of the project is that we will get the functions List Mail, Send Mail, and Receive Mail to work in Mandarin. Make the changes that work in Mandarin general enough that they can be easly adapted to work for other languages.

If we have more time, we will be working on making the Address Book, Folders, and Calendar work in Mandarin, as well as make the sqWordWrap() function work for special HTML characters

Our client, Darrell Pfeifer is interested in developing this project for two reasons. First, he wants to donate his time and money to help the open source community get some more quality coding and updates to their programs, and second, he wants to help the students get coding experience, so they may be more likely to get jobs in the coding industry, and let us get known in the Open source world.
