Introduction

The Moonlight Garden is a 3D interactive experience where the player is a wanderer. One night, they feel the forest call to them. Exploring, they come across a beautiful garden full of luminescent nature. They decide to explore. The environment has winding paths, and it looks very organic, magical, and old. It resembles a flower. There are four distinct places in the environment where the view is better. When the player stops there, the garden reveals a secret. It has a moody and magical feel, created using Maya and Unreal Engine’s VFX system Niagara, an adaptable and flexible system that allows artists to create stunning visuals without the assistance of a programmer.

Mayet would like to thank Ben Leather, the sponsor for this project. Ben helped develop the concept and story, keeping in mind what Mayet wanted to show in their work. This project wouldn’t be possible without his support. He is a great instructor and mentor. Thank you for reading! Please stop by to see The Moonlight Garden project at the symposium.

Mayet Escobar Taborda

Mayet is an international student from Colombia who is fluent in both English and Spanish. Living in Canada has been Mayet’s dream since they were 12 years old. Mayet fell in love with BC looking at photos online, and they find it even more beautiful in person. Mayet has always had an interest in videogames and other forms of entertainment media, and the Interactive Media Developer program at Camosun College has been a great fit for them. If given only one word to describe the type of stories they like, Mayet would choose wanderlust. They love stories where the characters must explore and journey distant lands, especially if the stories have a sort of ‘dream-like’, ‘whimsical’ or ‘otherworldly’ aesthetic.
