Shaker Engineering
Introduction
Holocene Distilling Project is a small craft distillery located in Cobble Hill, BC. Shaker Engineering has been tasked with developing a reactor system that consumes carbon dioxide gas exhausted during fermentation to precipitate calcium carbonate, which will be used to make sidewalk chalk. Carbon dioxide capture through mineralization supports Holocene’s goal of carbon neutrality by 2030 while allowing them to create a product with a meaningful story behind it.

Kai Wightman
Kai discovered in his early life that he has an affinity for fidgeting and taking things apart. At Camosun, he has honed his abilities in hands-on problem-solving, such as milling, lathing, SolidWorks, as well as many other skills. His great communications skills, paired with a passion for designing new things, makes him a valuable asset to any company. He looks forward to finding a job somewhere in the automotive industry to further develop his skills.
Taro McMillan
From a young age, Taro has been driven by a curiosity to understand how things work. This has led him to pursue Mechanical Engineering Technology. This program has given him hands-on problem-solving skills, machining experience with lathes and mills, computer design on multiple software applications, and many other important skills. His strong drive to learn new things and always improve his engineering skills will prove to be very useful to engineering companies. Taro would like to apply his skills and passion in a marine boating industry when he graduates.
Graeme Henderson
After a childhood of tinkering and building, Graeme was looking for a career path that blended elements of skilled trades and engineering. During his time studying Mechanical Engineering Technology at Camosun he has gained a diverse skillset in engineering theory, CAD design, CNC, and manual machining. Choosing to take on the position of Documentation and Accounting Lead, he has further developed skills in PDM systems, technical writing, and administration. Graeme hopes to bring his skillset to a position in research and development or quality assurance.
Adam Dunn
Adam is a mechanical engineering student who is ready and excited to apply the skills he has learned through the program and work. Adam has always enjoyed designing, building, and mathematics. He brings an open mind when working on a project as a group or individually. Adam brings an analytical approach and has the ability to weigh the pros and cons of competing designs, which ensures the team arrives at well-reasoned, practical solutions. His passion for learning and understanding how things work will continue to push him forward in his engineering career, driving him to grow and take on new challenges in the field.
